Established in 1977, the Mahatma Gandhi Park and Indira Gandhi Glass House has been a mainstay in the list of attractions that the twin-cities provide. Spread across a land parcel of 17.5 acres, the park has seen scores of generations come, relax and enjoy the fresh air provided by the park.
The numerous trees, shrubs and plants that grow in the park add to the greenery of the area as the tall trees of the park can be seen from some distance. People of all ages come to the park in the early mornings and evenings to complete their daily routine of walks and exercises.
Sights of people playing badminton and groups of people engaging in laughing exercises can also be not missed during the aforementioned hours. On weekends you can see families coming in and enjoying a home-cooked lunch under the canopy provided by the thick foliage of the trees.
Off-late the park was in some need of repairs, renovations and a facelift. The HDSCAS was assigned the task of upgrading the Mahatma Gandhi Park and Indira Gandhi Glass House. The officials of HDSCAS took this assignment with the utmost seriousness since many of the officials and the staff members had themselves spent part of their childhood in the greenery that the park had to offer.
The renovated Mahatma Gandhi Park and Indira Gandhi Glass House now offer multiple attractions to the public namely a renovated skating rink, a toy train fitted with all modern amenities, a revamped amphitheater, a renovated canteen, a musical fountain, a couple of gazebos, renovated exhibition area, and a sensory park with watch tower.
The musical fountain is a sight to behold. The fountain is accompanied by a color fountain, laser show and a water curtain. The entire show is a feast to the eyes. The amphitheater has a direct view of the musical fountain and can fit about 350 people.
The puzzle parking provided in the park is a first of its kind in the North Karnataka region which provides parking for 37 cars across 6 levels. This would solve the parking issues around the park and add to the aesthetic value of the park.
The park also supports local microentrepreneurs who get their livelihood by selling snacks and cool drinks that satisfy the mini hunger pangs you would experience after walking amongst the greenery of the park.
